Delhi Airport To Cancel 114 Daily Flights For Three Months Due to Runway Upgrade- Click for Renovation Schedule

Runway RW 10/28 to be closed from June 15 to September 15; ILS system to be upgraded for low visibility operations ahead of fog season

New Delhi | June 7, 2025:
Passengers flying through Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) should prepare for significant changes in flight schedules over the next few months. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced that 114 daily flights will be cancelled from June 15 to September 15, as one of the airport’s four runways—RW 10/28—undergoes essential upgradation.

This temporary suspension accounts for 7.5% of the airport’s daily 1,450 flight movements, with another 86 flights to be rescheduled from peak to non-peak hours during the same period. In total, 200 flights will be impacted.

DIAL’s CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar explained that RW 10/28 will be upgraded to support CAT III Instrument Landing System (ILS), enabling improved aircraft handling in low visibility conditions, particularly during Delhi’s notorious winter fog.

“We want to upgrade the runway to mitigate issues we faced during the fog season. This includes enhancing the ILS for CAT III compliance,” Jaipuriar stated at a press briefing.

Passenger Impact and Coordination

Jaipuriar emphasized that passengers are being informed in advance to avoid major disruptions. He also highlighted that the slot adjustment process was conducted in close coordination with all airlines.

The earlier upgrade, scheduled for April-May, was postponed due to operational congestion. After a directive from the Civil Aviation Ministry, the upgrade was rescheduled to June 15-September 15, with full completion—including ILS calibration—targeted by November 27, just before the onset of heavy fog.
