Mumbaikars, if you’re planning a night out or stocking up on liquor, take note—February 26, 2025, will be a dry day across Mumbai and Maharashtra due to Maha Shivratri. All bars, liquor shops, pubs, and restaurants serving alcohol will be prohibited from selling liquor for the entire day as per the Maharashtra government’s dry day regulations.

Why Is February 26 a Dry Day?

Maha Shivratri, known as the “Great Night of Shiva,” is one of the most significant Hindu festivals, celebrated with devotion across India. It is marked by fasting, temple visits, and spiritual practices, and alcohol consumption is traditionally avoided as a mark of respect.

What is Maha Shivratri?

Maha Shivratri falls on the fourteenth night of the waning moon in Phalguna (February–March). Devotees observe fasts, temple visits, and spiritual practices to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings. The day signifies self-discipline, reflection, and devotion, making it an occasion of national reverence where liquor sales are restricted.
