Drawing inspiration from her grandmother’s remedies and the ancient traditions of Ayurvedic haircare, Kaur has grown her brand to over $4.2 million (₹34 crore) in sales since its launch in 2019.
Kaur lost her mother to breast cancer at just 8 years old. Her mother’s long, lustrous hair became a symbol of beauty and strength that stuck with her.
“It was scary to see her lose the identifying part of what people saw as something that contributes so heavily to her beauty,” Kaur shared with CNBC Make It.
In the years following her loss, Kaur’s grandmother would oil her hair regularly using traditional ingredients — a ritual that would evolve into the formula for her flagship product.

Made with 100% natural and Ayurvedic ingredients, the oil has become the brand’s bestseller, reflecting a growing global demand for holistic, heritage-based beauty.
Kaur began opening up about her personal journey online, quickly gaining traction for her authentic storytelling and emotional connection with followers. After reaching 100,000 followers in 2019, she chose to monetise her social media and launch ByErim.
“I wanted to create a shortcut for any girls or boys that had grown up without a mum,” she explained.
Today, she has over 700,000 combined followers across Instagram and TikTok, many of whom are loyal customers drawn to both the product and her message.
From a grieving daughter to a self-made beauty entrepreneur, Kaur’s journey exemplifies how personal stories, when combined with cultural heritage and smart digital strategy, can spark global success.
