Over 1,100 users reported UPI payment issues by noon as platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm suffered disruptions; NPCI yet to issue a statement.
New Delhi, April 12: A major technical glitch has caused UPI-based digital payments to go offline nationwide on Saturday morning, leaving lakhs of users unable to make essential transactions. Platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm were among the most affected.

According to real-time monitoring site DownDetector, more than 1,100 complaints were registered by 12 noon. Google Pay received nearly 100 issue reports, while Paytm saw over two dozen. PhonePe users too voiced their frustration on social media platforms, though exact figures are still emerging.

Despite the widespread inconvenience, no official explanation has yet been offered by the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) or the digital payment providers themselves.

This isn’t the first UPI-related outage in recent weeks, raising growing concerns over the reliability of India’s flagship digital payment system—especially as it plays a vital role in daily retail, peer-to-peer, and enterprise transactions.
