Mumbai, April 11 – Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 are poised for a gap-up opening on Friday, as indicated by Gift Nifty’s strong trade, despite weak global cues including a steep Wall Street selloff, sharp losses in Asian markets, and ongoing anxiety around US-China trade tensions.

Here are 12 overnight cues investors should track before market open:


1. Gift Nifty Signals Strong Start

Gift Nifty was trading around 22,940, a premium of nearly 460 points over the previous Nifty close of 22,399.15, indicating a positive start for Indian indices.

2. Wall Street in Freefall

US markets tumbled on Thursday:

  • Dow Jones fell 1,014.79 points (–2.50%)
  • S&P 500 dropped 3.46%
  • Nasdaq crashed 4.31%

Heavyweight tech stocks led the fall — Apple (–4.24%), Nvidia (–5.91%), Tesla (–7.27%), AMD, and CarMax (–17%).


3. Trump’s 90-Day Tariff Pause & China Escalation

President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for non-retaliatory countries, while raising tariffs on China to 145% — intensifying global trade fears.


4. Asian Markets in Red

Mirroring Wall Street’s plunge:

  • Nikkei 225 slumped 5.46%
  • Topix fell 5.05%
  • Kospi dropped 1.55%
  • Hang Seng futures pointed to a weak open
  • ASX 200 declined 2.4%

5. RBI Turns Accommodative, Cuts Repo

The Reserve Bank of India cut the repo rate by 25 bps to 6%, shifted its stance to ‘accommodative’, and revised FY26 GDP forecast to 6.5% (from 6.7%).


6. Gold Nears Record High

Gold prices surged, nearing an all-time high amid global uncertainty:

  • Spot gold rose 1% to $3,205.53/oz
  • US gold futures hit $3,226.50/oz
    Gold is up over 5% this week, driven by safe-haven demand.

7. Crude Oil Prices Slide

Brent crude dipped 0.47% to $63.03/barrel
WTI crude slipped 0.60% to $59.71/barrel, adding to a 3% drop from the previous session.


8. Dollar Weakens Sharply

The US dollar fell across the board:

9. TCS Q4 Results Disappoint Slightly

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Q4FY25 results:

  • Revenue: ₹64,479 crore (+0.8% QoQ)
  • EBIT margin fell to 24.2%

11. US Inflation Dips

US CPI fell 0.1% in March, the first decline since May 2020. Annual inflation now stands at 2.4%, down from 2.8% in February.
