New Delhi, January 12: Ahead of the highly anticipated Maha Kumbh 2025, set to begin on Monday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Indian Railways has invested ₹5,000 crore over the past three years to upgrade infrastructure and enhance facilities to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims.
“We’ve undertaken extensive preparations for the Maha Kumbh over the last three years,” Vaishnaw stated. “This includes doubling railway lines, constructing new platforms, creating high-quality holding areas, and building a new bridge over the Ganga Ji to streamline operations.”
The minister highlighted that a 24/7 "war room" has been established at Prayagraj Junction and the railway board headquarters to monitor train movements and ensure smooth operations. Vaishnaw also emphasized the robust coordination between railway police and state authorities to maintain order during the event.
To simplify navigation for passengers, the Railways has introduced color-coded holding areas and booklets in 22 languages. Announcements will be made in 12 Indian languages to ensure clear communication for devotees across the country.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, MP from Udhampur, revealed that three special trains will operate between Katra and Prayagraj to facilitate pilgrim travel during the event.
The first special train is scheduled to depart from Katra Shri Mata Vaishno Devi railway station on January 24, arriving in Prayagraj on January 25, and returning to Katra on January 26. Timings for the subsequent two trains will be announced soon.
Singh shared details on X:
North Central Railway (NCR) has announced plans to operate over 300 trains, including 80 special services, to manage the anticipated surge of devotees. The upgraded infrastructure and expanded train services aim to ensure efficient and hassle-free transportation for millions attending the world’s largest religious gathering.
