Indian Stock Market Set for Gap-Up Start as Global Tech Rally, Trump’s Tariff Pause Boost Sentiment
Mumbai | April 15, 2025 —
The Indian stock market is poised for a bullish start on Tuesday, buoyed by strong global cues and a surge in Gift Nifty futures. Gift Nifty was trading around 23,305, reflecting a premium of nearly 387 points over Nifty futures’ previous close — signaling a potential gap-up opening for domestic indices.
With trading resuming after a holiday on Ambedkar Jayanti, both Sensex and Nifty 50 are expected to follow the global momentum sparked by US President Donald Trump’s 90-day pause on 26% tariffs, especially the fresh exemption for smartphones, computers, and semiconductors.
On Friday, markets had already reacted positively, with the Sensex jumping 1,310 points and Nifty 50 gaining 429 points, closing at 75,157 and 22,828 respectively.
“Trump’s tariff relief gave investors breathing room and triggered a rally. However, caution remains as China’s retaliatory 125% tariffs could spark renewed volatility,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP, Mehta Equities.
