Japanese Startup Founder Shares Learnings From Life-Changing Year After Moving to India
March 28, 2025: Naotaka Nishiyama, the founder of Tech Japan, recently opened up about his inspiring journey of moving from Japan to India to chase a dream. In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Nishiyama revealed that he landed in Bengaluru in March 2024 with little more than a suitcase—and a startup vision.

“One year ago, on March 25, I boarded a flight from Tokyo. In the early hours of March 26, I stepped out of Bengaluru airport into an entirely different world,” he wrote.
As a Japanese entrepreneur in India, Nishiyama realized early on that he was an outlier. “There aren’t many Japanese people in India, and most are expats from large corporates—automotive, electronics, or banking,” he explained.
“When I meet someone new, the first guess is always, ‘Toyota? Suzuki?’ I smile and say, ‘No, I run a company called Talendy.’ And then comes that puzzled look—‘What’s that?’”
Over the year, Nishiyama found himself not only adapting but evolving. He said the experience reshaped his approach to business and life, instilling a core belief: “Create value within change.”
“Something inside me has definitely shifted. Instead of challenging myself within stability, I’ve learned to create value within change. And that mindset has become a part of me,” he shared.
In his post, he credited India’s youth and their unstoppable energy and ambition for keeping him motivated. “Of course, I’m still learning… but the incredible people I’ve met here reaffirm my belief that we can shape the future together.”

His reflections struck a chord across social media, garnering over 7,000 reactions and 400+ comments on LinkedIn.
One user commented: “You are 100% right. India is complex and unpredictable, but that’s what makes every day a new opportunity to reinvent yourself.” Another added: “You’ve embraced a country so unlike Japan, and that’s admirable. Wishing your startup the best.”
Nishiyama’s story is a testament to what happens when courage meets culture, and change becomes a launchpad for innovation.
