At a fiery speech before Republican lawmakers, President Trump claimed global leaders are desperate to cut deals amid his sweeping tariffs — and mocked Congress for wanting a say in negotiations.

April 9, 2025: Washington:
US President Donald Trump turned up the rhetoric on Tuesday, launching into a fiery tirade against countries hit by his aggressive tariff policies — and taking a jab at Congress. Speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee, Trump claimed that world leaders were practically “kissing his a**” in desperation to strike deals with the US amid his latest trade war escalations.

“I’m telling you—these countries are calling us up, kissing my a**. They are dying to make a deal—’Please sir, make a deal, I’ll do anything, anything sir,'” Trump said to a roaring Republican audience.

The former president, who is leading his second-term administration with a combative trade-first approach, declared himself a far superior negotiator than Congress. He ridiculed “rebel Republicans” who, he said, want to take over tariff negotiations.

“I’ll see some rebel Republicans say, ‘Congress should handle the negotiations.’ But you don’t negotiate like I do,” Trump quipped. “Congress would sell America out so fast — we’d be broke.”

📉 Congress Would Let China Win, Trump Claims

Trump warned that allowing Congress to handle trade talks would only benefit rivals like China, who would dodge his steep 104% tariffs.

“If Congress takes over, the Chinese would be the happiest people on Earth,” Trump added sarcastically. “Instead of paying 104%, they’d be paying zero — and we’d end up paying them 104%.”

In a major policy reveal, Trump also announced plans to impose “massive tariffs” on pharmaceutical imports. The goal, he claimed, is to force companies to relocate manufacturing to the US.

“Most of our medicine is made overseas. A packet that costs $1 to make is sold for $10 here. That’s going to change,” he said. “Once we impose tariffs, companies will leave China and come rushing back to the US. We’re the biggest market — they won’t be able to ignore us.”

Trump added that this new tariff move on pharma will be formally announced “very shortly.”
