Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd trades 0.84% lower on July 1 as telecom peers show mixed performance across indices.
July-1, 2025: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (NSE: MTNL) opened Monday’s trading session slightly in the red, down 0.84% at ₹51.85, compared to the previous close of ₹52.29. The stock saw limited volatility in the first hour, hovering between ₹51.60 and ₹52.60.

The minor decline reflects broader investor caution in the telecom sector, even as heavyweight Bharti Airtel moved up by 0.72% to ₹2,024.10 and Indus Towers rose 1.02% to ₹425.40. On the other hand, Vodafone Idea Ltd gained 0.81% to ₹7.49, and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd traded at ₹66.48, up 0.59%.
While MTNL remains a low-volume, PSU stock with legacy infrastructure and debt burdens, it continues to draw interest during speculative upswings and disinvestment speculation. However, no fresh government signals or structural reforms have been announced that would significantly affect its fundamentals at this stage.
