Maha Kumbh 2025: ₹400 Crore Infrastructure to Ensure 24/7 Electricity for 40 Crore Devotees

Uttar Pradesh government sets up extensive power infrastructure, including 40,000 rechargeable bulbs, 2,700 AI-powered CCTV cameras, and underwater drones for seamless management.

January 2, 2025: As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 approaches, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has announced an investment of ₹400 crore in electricity infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted 24/7 power supply for an estimated 40 crore devotees.

Key Infrastructure Developments:

  • Power Lines Expansion: The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) has constructed 182 km of high-tension lines and 1,405 km of low-tension lines.
  • Rechargeable Bulbs: Over 40,000 rechargeable bulbs will illuminate key areas of the Maha Kumbh grounds. These bulbs, costing approximately ₹2.7 crore, are part of the state’s ongoing electricity projects.
  • 4.5 Lakh Electrical Connections: Campsites and essential service zones will be powered through 4.5 lakh electrical connections for smooth operations.

Advanced Security and Monitoring:

  • AI-Powered Surveillance: 2,700 CCTV cameras with Artificial Intelligence capabilities will monitor the festival grounds in real-time.
  • Facial Recognition Technology: Installed at entry points to enhance crowd control and safety.
  • Drone Surveillance: Underwater drones will monitor the Triveni Sangam, ensuring security at the sacred confluence, while aerial drones will oversee crowd density and movement.

The festival will also feature:

  • 92 renovated roads and 30 newly constructed bridges.
  • 800 multi-lingual signages for easy navigation.

The Significance of Maha Kumbh Mela:

Scheduled to run from January 13 to February 26, 2025, the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj is the world’s largest spiritual gathering, where millions of devotees take a ritualistic dip at the Triveni Sangam, believing it purifies the soul.
