Maruti Suzuki Escudo Mid-Size SUV Spotted Testing in India: Expected Launch, Features, and Engine Options

June 24, 2025: Maruti Suzuki is reportedly preparing to expand its SUV lineup in India with a new offering — the Maruti Suzuki Escudo. According to multiple sources, the Escudo is being developed under the codename Y17 and is aimed at the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. It is expected to rival top players like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The upcoming Escudo is likely to be positioned between the Maruti Brezza and the Grand Vitara and will be sold via the company’s Arena dealerships. Although initially designed as a 7-seater, Maruti Suzuki is now focusing on a more practical 5-seater version, which aligns better with current market demand.

Based on Global C Platform

Reports suggest the Maruti Suzuki Escudo will be underpinned by the Global C platform, which is already seen in the Grand Vitara. This platform supports a longer wheelbase, offering enhanced cabin and boot space. Spy shots of the SUV undergoing road tests hint at design updates and a more aggressive SUV stance.
