Now Disney Lays Off Hundreds In Fourth and Largest Job Cut This Year

The layoffs, impacting film, television, and corporate operations, are part of CEO Bob Iger’s ambitious cost-cutting drive to save $7.5 billion.

June-3, 2025: The Walt Disney Company has laid off hundreds of employees across its film, television, and corporate operations divisions, marking the fourth and largest round of job cuts in the past 10 months. According to a report by Deadline, while no entire teams have been eliminated, the layoffs have affected staff in areas like marketing, television publicity, casting, development, and corporate financial operations.

The cuts primarily impacted employees in Los Angeles and are part of Disney’s ongoing effort to rein in costs at a time of sweeping changes in the media landscape. CEO Bob Iger, who returned to the top job in 2023, had set a target to slash costs by at least $7.5 billion—an effort that led to the elimination of about 7,000 jobs last year alone.

This latest round of job losses follows Disney’s most recent earnings report for the second quarter of 2025, which saw the company’s direct-to-consumer operating profit climb by $289 million to $336 million, buoyed by strong performances in its streaming and sports divisions.

Earlier this year, Disney had already let go of nearly 200 staffers in March. The October 2024 restructuring had also seen major changes, including the folding of ABC Signature into 20th Television and the consolidation of scripted drama and comedy teams at ABC and Hulu Originals.

Despite the job cuts, Disney is simultaneously ramping up hiring in other areas, especially within its theme parks and experiences business. CEO Bob Iger has emphasized that while layoffs are a painful necessity, they are key to ensuring the long-term sustainability of Disney’s entertainment empire.
