
Sensex, Nifty End Flat; Investors Lose ₹4 Lakh Crore Amid Mid, Small-Cap Selloff
April 30, 2025: On Wednesday, April 30, benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 closed slightly in the red, ending their two-day winning streak. The Sensex slipped 46 points, or 0.06%, to close at 80,242.24, while the Nifty 50 edged down 2 points to settle at 24,334.20.

However, broader market pain was more visible in mid and small-cap stocks. The BSE Midcap index fell 0.72%, while the BSE Smallcap index plunged 1.74%, dragging the overall investor wealth down sharply.
As a result, the market capitalization of all BSE-listed companies fell from ₹426 lakh crore to ₹422 lakh crore, wiping out nearly ₹4 lakh crore in investor wealth in just one session.

Despite the day’s dip, Sensex gained 3.65% and Nifty 3.46% in April, marking their second straight month of gains, following March’s strong rally of 5.8% and 6.3% respectively.
Further developments in earnings and macroeconomic data will likely shape market direction in the upcoming sessions.
