June 26, 2025: Benchmark indices Sensex, Nifty are expected to open higher on Thursday, buoyed by easing geopolitical tensions following a stable ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Global investor sentiment has turned cautiously optimistic, with attention now shifting to US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s testimony before the Senate Banking Committee.
At 7:25 am, the GIFT Nifty was trading at 25,296, up by 0.2%, signaling a positive start to the session. On Wednesday, domestic markets extended gains for the second consecutive day. The Nifty Smallcap 100 surged by 1.42%, while the Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.21%. Additionally, India VIX, the volatility index, fell nearly 4% to 13.10, suggesting improved investor confidence and a calm market environment.
“The ability of the indices to hold above key support zones suggests persistent demand on dips,” said Dhupesh Dhameja, Analyst at SAMCO Securities. “However, failure to break resistance levels could keep markets in a consolidation phase.”
Investors are keenly awaiting remarks from Jerome Powell, who is expected to comment on inflation, interest rates, and the Fed’s balancing act between growth and price stability. His testimony could set the tone for global equity markets ahead of upcoming U.S. inflation data and Fed meeting minutes.
