Siemens Executive Agustin Escobar, Family Among Victims in Hudson River Helicopter Crash

The Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, Agustin Escobar, along with his wife and children, died in a tragic helicopter accident near New York City.

New York | April 11, 2025:
A devastating helicopter crash in the Hudson River on April 10 claimed the lives of six people, including Agustin Escobar, the Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children, along with the pilot.

Authorities confirmed that all passengers aboard the private helicopter died following the crash. Emergency response units from NYPD, FDNY, the Port Authority, and New Jersey agencies arrived at the scene within minutes. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that divers from multiple agencies recovered all six victims, though four were pronounced dead at the scene and two later succumbed to injuries in hospital.

In an official statement to The Independent, Siemens expressed grief:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic helicopter crash in which Agustin Escobar and his family lost their lives. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all their loved ones.”


Who Was Agustin Escobar?

A respected industry leader, Escobar began his journey with Siemens in 1998 as Head of Sales and Project Management for Power Automations in Madrid. Over the next two decades, he rose through the ranks, holding leadership roles across Spain, South America, the US, and Germany.

In 2022, he was appointed President and CEO of Siemens Spain, a position he held until 2024, after which he took over global operations as CEO of Siemens Mobility’s Rail Infrastructure division based in Berlin.

On his LinkedIn, Escobar described himself as having

“Over 25 years of international experience in the energy, infrastructure, and transportation sectors, leading businesses and teams across multiple continents.”


Merce Camprubi Montal: A Leader in Her Own Right

Escobar’s wife, Merce Camprubi Montal, was also a senior executive at Siemens, serving as Global Commercialization Manager in Barcelona. While details of how the couple met remain private, their shared careers at Siemens suggest a bond strengthened by professional collaboration and shared purpose.

Ongoing Investigation

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with authorities yet to determine what led to the fatal plunge into the Hudson. The tragic event has left the global business and transportation sectors in mourning, especially within Siemens and its vast network of global employees.
