July 17, 2025: The Indian stock market remained in a consolidation phase on Wednesday, with benchmark indices ending flat ahead of a key earnings day and global macroeconomic data releases. The Nifty 50 index closed marginally higher by 0.06% at 25,212.05, while the Bank Nifty rose 0.28% to settle at 57,168.95.

Gains in FMCG, IT, and realty stocks offset losses in the metals and pharma sectors. stock market mirrored the indecision, with mid-cap and small-cap indices ending largely unchanged.

Trade Setup for Thursday: Key Levels to Watch

According to Vaishali Parekh, Vice President of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, the Nifty is facing near-term resistance at 25,250. If breached, it could open the door for a rally toward 25,500 and 25,700. The support remains strong at 24,900, aligned with key exponential moving averages.

The Bank Nifty, which has seen gradual gains, may extend its rally toward the 57,000 level, provided it holds above the critical 56,600 mark.

Global Cues and Q1 Results in Focus

Investors are closely watching global economic indicators scheduled for Thursday, including the Eurozone CPI, UK unemployment data, and US retail sales and jobless claims.

Meanwhile, India’s corporate earnings season continues to heat up. Key Q1 results expected on Thursday include:

  • Indian Hotels

“Markets are likely to consolidate with a positive bias,” said Siddhartha Khemka, Head of Research at Motilal Oswal Financial Services. “Improving rural and healthcare trends and progress in India–US trade negotiations may provide support. Stock-specific action is expected to continue.”
