December 31, 2024: Google CEO Sundar Pichai has declared 2025 a critical year for the tech giant, emphasising the urgency of accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) advancements. In a recent strategy meeting held in California, Pichai urged employees to “internalise the urgency of this moment” and move swiftly to stay ahead in the AI race.

“The stakes are high,” Pichai stated. “These are disruptive moments. In 2025, we need to be relentlessly focused on unlocking the benefits of this technology and solving real user problems.”

At the heart of Google’s strategy is its flagship AI initiative, the Gemini app. This platform is envisioned as a cornerstone of the company’s future, with goals set to scale it to 500 million users—placing it on par with Google’s other flagship products.

Despite facing mounting regulatory scrutiny, including allegations of maintaining a monopoly in the search market, Pichai remains resolute. He acknowledged the external pressures but emphasized the need to remain focused: “It’s not lost on me that we are facing scrutiny across the world. So more than ever, through this moment, we have to make sure we don’t get distracted.”

In closing, Pichai reiterated that while being “first” in innovation isn’t always necessary, execution and delivering best-in-class products will define Google’s success in the coming year.

“In history, you don’t always need to be first, but you have to execute well and be the best in class. I think that’s what 2025 is all about,” he concluded.

As Google enters 2025, all eyes are on Gemini and its potential to reshape the AI landscape globally.
