December 5, 2024: UnitedHealthcare CEO Bryan Thompson, 50, was tragically murdered outside the New York Hilton Midtown on Wednesday morning. He was en route to deliver a keynote address at an investor conference when he was ambushed in a calculated attack.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect—described as a white male in his 30s or 40s, wearing a hooded jacket, black face mask, and gray backpack—approaching Thompson from behind in busy Midtown Manhattan. The attacker used a semi-automatic handgun equipped with a silencer, firing multiple shots.
Thompson was struck in the back and leg, causing him to collapse against a wall. Despite his firearm jamming three times, the gunman cleared the weapon and continued firing. After ensuring Thompson was incapacitated, the assailant calmly fled the scene on an electric bike, heading toward Central Park.
Emergency responders rushed Thompson to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators are piecing together clues from surveillance footage, which captured the suspect lingering near the scene minutes before the attack. Earlier that morning, he was spotted at a Starbucks purchasing water and power bars while wearing a surgical mask.
The NYPD recovered a phone and a water bottle from an alley near the shooting site, believed to have been discarded by the suspect. These items are being analyzed for fingerprints, DNA, and communication records.
UnitedHealth Group issued a heartfelt statement mourning Thompson’s death:
“We are deeply saddened and shocked at the passing of our dear friend and colleague Bryan Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. His leadership and kindness will be dearly missed.”
Thompson’s wife, Paulette, described the attack as “senseless” and revealed he had received threats in the past.
The NYPD has released images of the suspect and announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture. This shocking incident has sparked nationwide outrage and an urgent call for justice.
