Who Will Buy Tik-Tok? Trump Reveals, But Says Deal Needs Xi Jinping’s Nod
Washington D.C., June 29, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that a group of very wealthy individuals is prepared to acquire TikTok, but the deal hinges on approval from Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Speaking to Maria Bartiromo on Fox News, Trump said, “We have a buyer for TikTok… I’ll need probably China’s approval and I think President Xi will probably do it… It’s a group of very wealthy people.”
While the identities of the potential buyers remain undisclosed, Trump stated that an official announcement would come “in about two weeks.”

The update comes amid mounting pressure on TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest its U.S. operations. The current deadline is September 17, but Trump hinted he’s open to extending it further to avoid banning the popular app.
“If it requires an extension, I’d be happy to extend it,” Trump previously told NBC News.
Trump’s continued efforts to “save TikTok” have earned him unexpected support from younger voters, many of whom use the platform daily.

Following Trump’s remarks, social media platforms lit up with speculation.
Trump himself has acknowledged the app’s cultural impact, saying, “I have a small warm place in my heart for TikTok.”
Under legislation passed in 2024, TikTok faces a ban in the U.S. unless ByteDance divests its American operations by January 19, 2025, or shows significant progress toward a sale.
The move stems from national security concerns about Chinese access to U.S. user data — an issue Trump first raised during his previous term and one that continues to shape the platform’s future.
