From Bollywood Glamour to Spiritual Awakening: Mamta Kulkarni Becomes a Kinnar Akhara Nun

January 25, 2025: Mamta Kulkarni, once a celebrated star of Bollywood with hits like Aashiq Awara (1993), Krantiveer (1994), and Karan Arjun (1995), has now taken a significant spiritual turn in her life. The former actress has been consecrated as a Hindu nun under the Kinnar Akhara during the ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj.

Mamta, who returned to India in 2024 after spending two decades abroad, is now on a spiritual pilgrimage. On January 29, she participated in the auspicious Mauni Amavasya Snan and performed her Pind Daan on the banks of the Ganga River, signifying a complete renunciation of her past worldly life. Following this, she was honored with the title of Mahamandaleshwar, a significant position in the Kinnar Akhara, a spiritual sect for eunuchs functioning under the Juna Akhara.

In a video shared earlier, Mamta revealed her plans to visit Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Ayodhya after completing her rituals in Prayagraj. Speaking to PTI, Kinnar Akhara’s Mahamandaleshwar Kaushalya Nand Giri, also known as Tina Maa, praised Mamta’s dedication to her spiritual path.

Mamta Kulkarni’s journey into spirituality began in 1996 when she met Guru Gagan Giri Maharaj, sparking a deep spiritual awakening. She moved abroad in 2000 and lived a celibate life for 12 years in Dubai, dedicating herself to penance and austerity. In her own words:
“Bollywood gave me fame, but spirituality gave me peace. My decision to leave the industry was driven by my growing inclination toward a higher purpose.”

After years of seclusion and penance, Mamta returned to India to attend the Maha Kumbh 2025, her second Maha Kumbh visit since 2012. Sharing her emotions on social media, she wrote, “Back to my motherland after 25 years. Maha Kumbh 2025 marks another milestone in my spiritual journey.”

Her transformation from a Bollywood icon to a revered spiritual figure reflects a profound evolution, inspiring many to explore paths of self-discovery and inner peace.
