December 10, 2024: Rajput leader Raj Shekhawat has issued a strong warning to the producers of Pushpa 2, accusing the film of insulting the Kshatriya community. The controversy stems from Fahadh Faasil’s character, IPS Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, in the Allu Arjun starrer.
In a video shared online, Shekhawat alleged that the use of the name “Shekhawat” in a negative context is an insult to the Kshatriya community. He warned that the Karni Sena, a Rajput organisation known for its protests against films in the past, would take extreme measures if the issue isn’t addressed.
“The makers of Pushpa 2 have insulted the Shekhawat community. This industry continuously disrespects Kshatriyas under the guise of freedom of speech. If the repeated use of the name ‘Shekhawat’ is not removed from the movie, the Karni Sena will take action and thrash the makers inside their homes if needed,” Shekhawat declared.
He also called upon Karni Sena supporters to prepare for action, stating that the community’s dignity would not be compromised any further.
Despite the controversy, Pushpa 2 is dominating at the box office, breaking records globally. The movie earned an incredible ₹294 crore worldwide on its opening day, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and setting a new record in Hindi-language collections.
The film also shattered RRR’s ₹156 crore opening day record, becoming the biggest domestic opener in Indian cinema history. Cinema halls have been reporting packed shows since its release last Thursday.
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2 is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Muttamsetty Media. It features Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil reprising their roles as Pushpa Raj, Srivalli, and IPS Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, respectively.
Allu Arjun, who won a National Film Award for his performance in the first instalment of Pushpa, continues to captivate audiences with his role in the sequel. The first part of the film revolved around the power struggles of red sandalwood smuggling, setting the stage for the intense drama in Pushpa 2.
While the makers have yet to respond to the allegations, the controversy has done little to deter the film’s monumental success at the box office.
