December 15, 2024: An 8-year-old boy, Sri Teja, remains on ventilator support after being critically injured in a stampede during the screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. The incident, which occurred on December 4, also claimed the life of his mother, Revathi.
Child’s Condition Update
According to a statement from KIMS Cuddles Hospital in Secunderabad, Sri Teja remains in critical condition. The hospital reported on Saturday, “The boy continues to be in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on ventilator support with minimal requirements. He is hemodynamically stable and tolerating tube feedings. However, he has intermittent fever, remains in an altered sensorium, and exhibits dystonic movements.”
The child was admitted with severe injuries caused by asphyxiation during the chaos.
What Happened During the Pushpa 2 Screening?
The tragedy unfolded when Allu Arjun, the lead star of Pushpa 2, attended the special screening at Sandhya Theatre along with his co-star Rashmika Mandanna and his wife Sneha Reddy. Massive crowds gathered outside the venue, hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor, leading to a stampede-like situation.

Sri Teja’s mother, Revathi, succumbed to her injuries during the chaos, while the young boy was critically injured.
Allu Arjun’s Apology and Legal Action
Following the incident, Allu Arjun and director Sukumar issued public apologies and extended their condolences to the family. Arjun donated ₹25 lakh to support the victims’ family.

However, the incident sparked legal repercussions. Hyderabad police registered a case against Allu Arjun, Sandhya Theatre’s management, and his security team under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 105 and 118(1).
Allu Arjun, along with theatre owner M Sandeep, senior manager M Nagaraju, and balcony in-charge Gandhakam Vijay Chander, were arrested. While Arjun was initially sent to 14 days of judicial custody, his legal team secured interim bail from the Telangana High Court. However, the actor had to spend a night in jail before being released.
