January 2, 2025: In an emotional interview with Hindustan Times, filmmaker Sajid Khan candidly spoke about the profound impact of the #MeToo allegations on his life and career. Known for directing blockbusters like Housefull and Heyy Baby, Sajid revealed he considered suicide multiple times during the past six years of turmoil.

Sajid admitted that despite being cleared by the Indian Film and Television Directors Association (IFTDA) in 2019, he has faced a professional freeze. He was forced to sell his house and move into a rented flat due to mounting financial struggles. Sajid shared, “I thought of ending my life many times in the last six years. It’s been extremely tough — both mentally and financially.”

The filmmaker recalled hiding the allegations from his ailing mother to protect her from stress. He said, “I pretended everything was fine for ten days. My mother raised me with values of gender equality, and I’ve spent these years reflecting on my words and actions.”
Sajid acknowledged his brash personality and past offensive humor as factors that may have contributed to his situation. “When work stops, you start questioning everything about your life. I’ve mellowed down now. I just want to work to survive.”
Despite battling severe mental health challenges, Sajid revealed he did not seek therapy. Instead, he relied on self-talk and personal reflection to cope.
Sajid is now set to return to filmmaking with a project starting mid-year, though he admits there’s no guarantee of success. He emphasized his goal: “I just want to entertain people — that’s all I know how to do.”
The filmmaker concluded with a reflective note: “The past six years have been a chapter in my life, not the whole book. I’m ready to move forward.”
