The highly anticipated tennis romance drama “Challengers,” directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Zendaya, will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting September 19, 2024.
The announcement was made on Prime Video’s platform, teasing its release as “Coming to Prime in 8 days.” While streaming dates may experience minor adjustments, fans are eagerly awaiting the film’s OTT debut.
“Challengers” follows Tashi Duncan (played by Zendaya), a former tennis prodigy turned coach, whose life becomes complicated both on and off the court. Her husband (played by Mike Faist) is grappling with a losing streak, while a looming match against her ex-boyfriend Patrick (played by Josh O’Connor) adds to the drama. The story delves into the intense emotional and psychological battles within the professional tennis world, exploring Tashi’s personal struggles as past relationships collide with her present.
The film, which had its theatrical debut in the U.S. on April 26, 2024, later became available on PVOD on May 17, and began streaming on MGM+ on July 29. “Challengers” has grossed over $94 million globally at the box office, highlighting its broad appeal.
Guadagnino directed the film based on a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes, with music composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The film was produced by Amy Pascal, Luca Guadagnino, Zendaya, and Rachel O’Connor, with Bernard Bellew serving as the executive producer.
Meanwhile, Zendaya is reportedly in early discussions to star alongside Robert Pattinson in “The Drama,” a romance with an unexpected twist, directed and written by Kristoffer Borgli of Dream Scenario fame.
