November 4, 2024: Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin experienced an unexpected on-stage mishap during the band’s concert in Melbourne, Australia, over the weekend. Viral videos from the event captured the dramatic moment when Martin fell through an open trap door, leaving fans gasping in shock.
The incident took place as Martin, while engaging with the audience, inadvertently stepped backwards into the open trap door, part of the concert’s elaborate stage design. Fortunately, crew members below were quick to catch him. Recovering with his signature humour, Martin thanked the crew, saying, “Thank you for catching me,” and added, “That’s, uh, not planned… Holy s—, that was nearly a YouTube moment!”
Martin isn’t the only musician to face on-stage accidents recently. Just last week, pop star Olivia Rodrigo fell into a trap door mid-performance, while Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Carrie Underwood, and Nick Jonas have also faced similar mishaps this year.
Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” World Tour is scheduled to make its way to India in January 2025, with performances at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on January 18, 19, and 21. Due to overwhelming demand, the band added an extra show to accommodate eager fans.
However, the ticket frenzy has also attracted scrutiny. India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched an investigation into alleged ticket black marketing and money laundering related to Coldplay’s upcoming India tour. The ED reported multiple complaints from fans who were allegedly deceived by fraudulent ticket sellers. The investigation followed complaints from various sources, including online ticketing platform BookMyShow, which filed an FIR against suspected individuals accused of exploiting concert-goers.
