Cricket West Indies (CWI) has made a historic move by awarding multi-year contracts to top players from both the men’s and women’s teams for the first time.
This decision follows the signing of a new four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between CWI and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) in January 2024.
A total of 15 senior men’s players received contracts, with six players awarded multi-year contracts. Notable names include:
Multi-Year Contracts : Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Shamarh Brooks, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, and Jayden Seales.
One-Year Contracts: Alick Athanaze, Kraigg Brathwaite, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Joshua Da Silva, Kavem Hodge, Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Rovman Powell.
Three women received multi-year contracts, while 12 were offered one-year contracts. Key players include:
Multi-Year Contracts: Shemaine Campbelle, Hayley Matthews, and Stafanie Taylor.
One-Year Contracts: Aaliyah Alleyne, Shamilia Connell, Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Cherry-Ann Fraser, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, Chedean Nation, Karishma Ramharack, Rashada Williams, and Ashmini Munisar.
Kavem Hodge made his Test debut against Australia this year and significantly contributed to the West Indies’ historic Test win in Australia, followed by scoring his maiden Test hundred against England.
Roston Chase played a vital role in the West Indies’ journey to the Super 8 stage in the T20 World Cup, achieving a remarkable average of 60.25 in T20Is.
CWI’s Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, emphasized the importance of maintaining transparent dialogue with players and praised the contracted players for their recent performances. This initiative aims to enhance the support system for players, allowing them to focus more on their performance.
