David Miller Dispels Retirement Rumors After ICC T20 WC Final Loss

South Africa’s explosive batter, David Miller, has clarified his stance on retirement rumors following the devastating loss in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final. Despite social media claims, Miller confirmed that he will continue to be available for the Proteas.

The Proteas’ hopes of winning the inaugural World Cup were dashed with a narrow 7-run defeat to India in the final. Soon after, rumors surfaced on social media suggesting Miller had announced his retirement from T20 Internationals. The left-handed batter quickly dispelled these rumors, stating on Instagram, “Contrary to some reports, I have NOT retired from T20 International cricket. I will continue to be available to play for the Proteas. The best is yet to come.”

Reflecting on the loss, Miller expressed his sorrow over the team’s defeat to India in the final held on Saturday in Barbados, describing the experience as a “tough pill to swallow.”

In the final over, needing 16 runs from six balls, Miller attempted a big shot but was caught near the boundary by Suryakumar Yadav, sealing the match in India’s favor. India captured their second ICC T20 World Cup title with this seven-run victory.

Sharing his feelings on Instagram, Miller wrote, “I am gutted!! Really tough pill to swallow after what transpired 2 days ago. Words don’t explain how I am feeling. One thing I do know is how proud I am of this unit. This journey was an incredible one, with highs and lows throughout the entire month. We have endured pain, but I know this team has the resilience and will keep raising the bar.”

Throughout the tournament, Miller scored 169 runs in nine matches, averaging 28.16 with a strike rate of 102.42, including a half-century with his best score being 59*.
