Despite The Loss, Bangladesh Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto Praises Team's Bowling Performance

In the post-match presentation following India’s dominant 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto reflected on his team’s performance, particularly highlighting the efforts of his bowlers.

Shanto praised the contributions of Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, and Nahid Rana, especially during the early stages of India’s second innings. He commended their ability to challenge India’s top-order batsmen, stating:

“The positive thing is the way Hasan, Taskin, and Rana bowled in the first 2-3 hours, really impressive. After that, they (India) batted really well.”

Shanto was pleased with how his seamers performed with the new ball, acknowledging their discipline and contribution to the team’s bowling efforts.

“The way we bowled with the new ball, it’s impressive.”

Shanto emphasized that Bangladesh’s bowling has been strong in recent series and is something they can continue building on.

“The last couple of series we have bowled really well but we have to continue that.”

Shanto also touched on his approach as a batter, where he tries to focus on his process rather than the outcome:

“As a batter, I always try to contribute. I enjoy my batting. Just try to bat as long as we can without thinking about the outcome.”

While praising the bowlers, Shanto expressed hope that the batting lineup could step up in future matches to give Bangladesh a better chance of success.

“Bowlers did a great job, I hope the batters will do something special.”

This victory underlined India’s dominance at home, particularly with their potent spin attack.

Meanwhile, Shanto’s comments reflect Bangladesh’s focus on improving their overall team balance, with a particular need for stronger batting efforts in future matches.
