Novak Djokovic progressed to the semi-final of Wimbledon 2024 after his opponent, Alex de Minaur, gave a walkover in their quarter-final match on Wednesday in London. The Australian tennis player withdrew due to an injury, allowing Djokovic to secure his place in the semi-finals without contest.
In an earlier quarter-final round of the prestigious tournament, Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev triumphed over World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a thrilling five-set match, winning 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3. Sinner took the first set in a close tiebreak, but Medvedev bounced back to win the second set 6-4. Medvedev continued his momentum, clinching the third set in another tiebreak. Although Sinner responded by winning the fourth set 6-2, Medvedev kept his composure and secured the final set 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals.
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz also made it to the semi-finals by defeating the United States’ Tommy Paul 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. Alcaraz struggled initially, losing the first set 5-7, but he quickly bounced back to take the second set 6-4. The 21-year-old Spaniard then dominated the next two sets, winning 6-2, 6-2, to set up a semi-final clash with Medvedev.
The Wimbledon 2024 semi-finals will see Daniil Medvedev face Carlos Alcaraz in what promises to be an exciting match.
