Do Patti Review: Kajol, Kriti Sanon Starrer Fails to Impress With Weak Plot & Confusing Execution

October 26, 2024: Do Patti, starring Kajol, Kriti Sanon, and Shaheer Sheikh, has premiered on Netflix, but unfortunately, it falls short of delivering a cohesive and gripping thriller. Directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi, the film attempts to explore the complex dynamics between twin sisters Saumya and Shailee, but ends up getting lost in a convoluted plot filled with illogical scenes and poor character development.

Plot Summary Set in the serene hills of Devipur, Uttarakhand, the story follows a police inspector (played by Kajol) determined to uncover the truth behind an attempted murder. The narrative is meant to weave a web of deception and suspense, but instead, it falters due to inconsistent storytelling and underdeveloped characters. The film’s premise hints at a suspense thriller, but it lacks direction, leaving viewers confused about whether it’s aiming for a social message or just a mystery drama.

Where the Film Falls Short The biggest issue with Do Patti is its disjointed storyline. The script fails to build a clear, focused narrative, making it difficult to understand the underlying premise. Despite the film’s intent to create suspense, the execution is mediocre, often leaning on social angles and clichés that fail to add depth.

The scenes are riddled with logic gaps. Shaheer Sheikh’s character, for instance, is a multi-millionaire who somehow spends most of his time as an adventure sports professional, which feels entirely out of place. In another baffling scene, a minister is invited for dinner to discuss a ₹1500 crore project as casually as if planning a family event, only for the meeting to be disrupted by overly spicy food prepared by Saumya. The scene ends up feeling forced and absurd.

Moreover, the film’s setting in the picturesque hills adds nothing to the plot. While the locations are beautiful (possibly shot in Manali), they have no connection to the storyline, making the choice of setting feel arbitrary and disconnected.

Character and Performance Review Kriti Sanon, playing the lead role, gives a visibly earnest performance but struggles to connect emotionally, perhaps due to weak direction or the character’s lack of depth. Kajol, who portrays the police inspector, seems disengaged throughout, and her performance feels like she’s sleepwalking through the film. An odd twist has her character deciding to fight the case in court, which seems out of place and absurd.

Shaheer Sheikh’s role is poorly defined, and his performance suffers as a result. The film also introduces bizarre elements like a caretaker who secretly records the couple, which serves no real purpose to the plot and feels unnecessary.

Climax and Final Thoughts The film’s climax, intended to be the big reveal, falls flat and lacks the punch needed to conclude a thriller. Overall, Do Patti suffers from an unstructured, illogical screenplay, poorly defined characters, and underwhelming performances.

Recommendation It’s Diwali season, and there are far more enjoyable ways to spend your time than watching this dull and disjointed film. Do Patti struggles to deliver on its promises, and my recommendation is to skip this one.
