October 22, 2024: Producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, were interrogated by Mumbai Police after being booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly depicting inappropriate scenes involving minor girls in an episode of the ALTBalaji web series Gandi Baat.
The series, known for its bold content, is facing scrutiny over Season 6, which allegedly showed explicit scenes involving minors.
The police have asked Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor to return for further questioning on October 24 and bring documents related to ALTBalaji. Additionally, authorities are gathering information about the actors involved in the series and plan to record statements from the actors and the director.
The complaint stems from the episodes streamed on ALTBalaji between February and April 2021, though the controversial episode is no longer available on the platform. This legal development comes amidst ongoing discussions about the limits of content on OTT platforms in India.
Meanwhile, Ekta Kapoor’s drama film Love, Sex aur Dhokha 2 (LSD 2), directed by Dibakar Banerjee, was released earlier this year. The film explores the intersection of intimacy and the digital world, reflecting on society’s growing obsession with technology and its impact on personal relationships.
