New York [US], October 31, 2024: In a vibrant tribute to Diwali, New York’s iconic Empire State Building lit up on Thursday in bright orange, symbolizing the festival’s message of triumph of light over darkness.
The Consulate General of India in New York celebrated the event, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “The iconic Empire State Building lights up in vibrant orange to celebrate Diwali, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness!” The annual lighting reflects New York’s diverse cultural spirit, embracing Diwali alongside a global community.
This year’s Diwali festivities also sparked warm exchanges of greetings from leaders and diplomats worldwide. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz extended his heartfelt wishes to India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, writing, “My friend S Jaishankar, I wish you and the people of India a Happy Diwali 2024! Israel and India share the values of democracy, freedom, and a vision for a brighter future. May this Festival of Light bring us all joy, prosperity, and peace.”
U.S. Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, also shared a Diwali message on X, emphasizing the cultural exchange between the U.S. and India. “This Diwali, Indians and Americans across Mission India are sharing these diyas that bring joy and blessings to all,” Garcetti wrote, adding his best wishes for a “very Happy Diwali.”
Other international leaders joined in the Diwali celebrations with festive greetings. Norwegian Ambassador to India, May-Elin Stener, conveyed her message in both Hindi and English, expressing, “#HappyDiwali2024 Best wishes of Diwali to everyone.” Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov also extended warm Diwali greetings, sharing, “On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my warm greetings to my Indian friends and wish them happiness and prosperity.”
Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, marked the day by sharing glimpses of his team’s Diwali celebrations. “Best wishes to everyone on the festival of Diwali. Light, joy and a lot of dancing!” he posted, celebrating the festival with music, traditional festivities, and unity.
