Pop icon Katy Perry joins Jeff Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sanchez and four other trailblazing women in a groundbreaking suborbital mission aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard.
April 15, 2025: In a landmark moment for space tourism, pop sensation Katy Perry soared beyond Earth’s atmosphere on Monday aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, joining an all-women crew that included Jeff Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sanchez and TV host Gayle King.
Launching from West Texas at 8:30 am local time, the capsule reached over 100 kilometers in altitude, crossing the Kármán line—the internationally recognized boundary of space. The fully automated flight lasted around 10 minutes, giving the crew a fleeting yet unforgettable experience of weightlessness.

Upon landing, an emotional Perry kissed the ground, calling the flight a “10 out of 10” and encouraging others to take the leap. “This experience has shown me how much love we carry inside. It’s something you feel deeply when you’re up there,” she said.
Fellow passenger Gayle King shared that Perry sang “What a Wonderful World” while in space, adding a touch of magic to the voyage. “It’s oddly quiet up there. You look down at Earth and realize how small we are—how much better we can be,” King reflected.
The mission, Blue Origin’s 11th suborbital crewed flight, marked the first all-female crew in space since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo flight in 1963. Other passengers included film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and activist Amanda Nguyen.

Perry’s motivation for joining the mission was deeply personal. “I did it for my daughter Daisy—to inspire her to dream without limits,” she told Elle in a pre-launch interview.
As the space tourism race heats up between Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, and SpaceX, missions like these serve not only to break barriers but also to inspire future generations.
