$260M Shockwave: Who Is Derek Dixon, and Why Is He Suing Tyler Perry?

June 19, 2025: Actor Derek Dixon, known for his recurring role as Dale in BET’s political drama “The Oval”, has filed a $260 million lawsuit against the show’s creator and Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry, alleging sexual harassment, assault, and retaliation.

Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Dixon gained prominence through “The Oval” and its spinoff series “Ruthless.” His lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles on June 13, 2025, claims a coercive dynamic began after he met Perry at a 2019 event hosted by Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. Dixon alleges that Perry selected him from the crowd, initiated a professional relationship, and later cast him in both series.

Court documents reveal disturbing accusations — including claims that Perry made unwanted sexual advances starting in January 2020 at his Atlanta home. Dixon says he was intoxicated and resting in a guest room when Perry allegedly got into bed and touched him inappropriately. According to Dixon, Perry continued to send explicit messages afterward, allegedly suggesting that career progression depended on their “relationship.”

The actor further claims a second disturbing encounter occurred later in 2020, during which Perry allegedly grabbed him by the throat, leading Dixon to believe that his role was in jeopardy if he didn’t comply.

The lawsuit accuses Perry of quid pro quo harassment, assault and battery, and maintaining a toxic workplace environment. Dixon claims he worked under constant fear, believing his job security hinged on tolerating unwanted sexual behavior.

As of now, Tyler Perry has not issued a public statement addressing the allegations.
