September 4, 2025: Fans of the post-apocalyptic horror franchise are quite excited about the release of the first trailer for the long-awaited sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. The new clip not only gives us a scary peek at the movie’s plot, but it also confirms that two big stars, Ralph Fiennes and Cillian Murphy, will be back, albeit Cillian Murphy will only have a small but important part.

The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland, will pick up where the last movie left off. The official summary says that the main danger in this part won’t be the infected, but rather the “inhumanity of the survivors.” The trailer shows a new group of bad guys lead by Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell). Young Spike (Alfie Williams) gets caught up in their hazardous world.

The first post said that Cillian Murphy would be an executive producer, but subsequent sources say that he will also be on screen, playing Jim again from the first movie, 28 Days Later. Danny Boyle, the filmmaker, says that Murphy will have a short but “very satisfying” role in The Bone Temple. He will have a considerably bigger role in the third and final movie of the trilogy.

Critics and fans alike have given the trailer, which boasts a creepy narration from sci-fi writer Arthur C. Clarke, very favorable reviews. A lot of people have liked the new focus on the human side of survival and the scary new villains.

The movie also includes Alfie Williams, Erin Kellyman, and Chi Lewis-Parry, in addition to Fiennes, O’Connell, and Murphy. The Bone Temple will come out in theaters on January 16, 2026, 28 years after it was first made.
