Predictable storytelling, weak performances, and poor timing spelled doom for this much-hyped heist comedy.

March 3, 2025: Nithiin’s latest venture Robinhood hit theatres with hopes of reviving the actor’s career, but the film failed to strike gold at the box office. With a genre as exciting as a heist comedy, audiences expected clever twists, charismatic performances, and punchy humour. Instead, what they got was a rehash of dated ideas served on a bland platter. Here’s a breakdown of five key reasons why Robinhood couldn’t leave a mark:

1. A Heist Without a Hook

Heist films are expected to be slick, fast-paced, and full of smart surprises. Robinhood, however, delivered a by-the-numbers plot that felt too safe. Despite a promising ensemble cast, there was no real thrill or chemistry between characters—leaving viewers disengaged.

2. Outdated Action Sequences

In an era where action is being redefined by films like Salaar and Pushpa, Robinhood stuck to overused slow-mo punches and gravity-defying stunts that no longer wow the crowd. The action lacked freshness, offering nothing new to a genre already saturated with spectacle.

3. Screenplay Missed the Mark

Director Venky Kudumula tried to weave a non-linear narrative to keep things interesting, but the execution lacked bite. Unlike films like KGF or Salaar, where narrative jumps build intrigue, Robinhood’s screenplay felt sluggish and uninspired, failing to keep the audience invested.

4. Lackluster Lead Performances

Neither Nithiin nor Sreeleela managed to deliver impactful performances. The chemistry between them was flat, and their characters never truly came alive on screen. It seemed like the actors were just going through the motions, which made it harder for the audience to root for them.

5. A Disastrous Release Window

Robinhood was up against major releases like MAD Square, the Malayalam blockbuster L2: Empuraan, and Salman Khan’s Eid release Sikandar. Without a viral soundtrack or strong pre-release buzz, Robinhood got lost in the crowd—making it a victim of poor release planning more than anything else.

The Bigger Picture

Robinhood has turned out to be a missed opportunity for Nithiin, whose recent attempts at reinvention haven’t quite worked out. With Thammudu—a title borrowed from Pawan Kalyan’s iconic film—on the horizon, stakes are sky-high. If it doesn’t deliver, Nithiin risks slipping further down in the Telugu cinema ranks.
