8-Year-Old Critical After Pushpa 2 Screening Stampede; Allu Arjun and Theatre Management Booked

Child on Ventilator Support as Neurological Condition Worsens

December 18, 2024: Medical Update

According to a health bulletin released by KIMS Cuddles Hospital, Sri Tej is under intensive care, showing no improvement in his neurological condition. The doctors noted he is currently on mechanical ventilation with minimal oxygen support.

A tracheostomy—a surgical procedure to insert a breathing pipe into the windpipe—is being considered to aid his recovery. While his fever has reduced and vital signs remain stable, respiratory distress required him to be re-intubated after his initial breathing support was removed on December 10.

The hospital statement revealed he was admitted with low oxygen saturation and irregular breathing following the incident.

Police Action

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand stated that the child’s condition deteriorated due to a lack of oxygen during the stampede, leaving him brain-dead. Recovery, he emphasized, would be a prolonged process.

The Incident

The stampede occurred when large crowds gathered at Sandhya Theatre to see Allu Arjun, the lead actor of Pushpa 2, during the premiere. Amid the chaos, 35-year-old Mogudampalli Revathi and her son, Sri Tej, were severely suffocated. While CPR was performed on the spot, Revathi was declared dead at the hospital, and Sri Tej was admitted in critical condition.

Legal Fallout

Police have booked:

  • The theatre management
  • Actor Allu Arjun and his team

Charges include culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Allu Arjun was briefly arrested last week but secured interim bail from the Telangana High Court.

Public Outrage

The incident has sparked concerns over safety regulations at public events, particularly during high-profile premieres. Authorities continue to investigate the lapse in crowd control and security that led to the tragedy.
