‘A Minecraft Movie’ Sparks Chaos and Cheers in Theaters, Prompting Warnings from Cinema Chains

Rowdy TikTok-inspired audience reactions to “A Minecraft Movie” force UK cinemas to issue strict behavioral guidelines.

The massive success of A Minecraft Movie has created more than just box office records — it’s sparked a social media-fueled frenzy in theaters. The Warner Bros. and Legendary film, based on the popular Mojang video game, has become so wildly popular with young audiences that cinemas across the UK are now clamping down on disruptive behavior.

Cineworld in Oxfordshire issued a stern notice after viral videos showed moviegoers cheering, shouting, and tossing popcorn during major scenes — especially when Jack Black’s character declares “I am Steve!” or yells “chicken jockey!” The notice warns: “Any form of anti-social behavior, especially anything that may disturb other guests such as loud screaming, clapping and shouting will not be tolerated. Anyone who is found to be acting in this manner will be removed from the screening and not entitled to a refund.”

Other cinema chains are echoing the sentiment. A REEL Cinema spokesperson stated: “To ensure everyone has the best possible cinema experience, we’re increasing our monitoring of screens. Disruptive behavior, including TikTok trend participation, will not be tolerated. Offenders will be asked to leave, and police may be contacted if necessary.”

The Glasgow Times also reported similar alerts, with Cineworld locations reminding patrons to silence phones and refrain from creating noise during screenings.

Despite the chaos, A Minecraft Movie is a runaway success. Starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen, the film shattered records, earning $162 million domestically and $313 million globally during its opening weekend — making it the biggest debut ever for a video game adaptation.

In a celebratory memo, Warner Bros. execs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy hailed the film as “the largest domestic opening weekend of 2025… and Warner Bros.’ biggest since 2023,” calling it a “world-class achievement.”

A Minecraft Movie is currently showing in theaters worldwide — just be sure to leave the TikTok trends at the door.
