November 22, 2024: Legendary composer A.R. Rahman has shared his first public update following the announcement of his separation from his wife, Saira Banu, after 29 years of marriage. On Friday, Rahman revealed that he had won the prestigious Hollywood Music in Media Award (HMMA) for Best Score for the film The Goat Life.

Taking to his social media handle, Rahman expressed his gratitude, dedicating the award to his team and fans. “It’s an incredible honour to receive this award for the best score for the foreign language film The Goat Life,” he said in a video message shared during the award ceremony.

The 15th annual HMMA ceremony, held earlier this week, celebrates excellence in music across film, TV, video games, and other mediums. The award for The Goat Life was accepted on Rahman’s behalf by director Blessy, as the composer was unable to attend the event in person. Rahman described the project, based on Benyamin’s bestselling 2008 novel Aadujeevitham, as a “labour of love.”

“I share this moment with my amazing team of musicians and technicians, director Blessy, and everyone who believed in the vision we brought to life,” Rahman said. He also extended heartfelt thanks to his fans for their “unwavering love and inspiration.”

While Rahman was also nominated in the Song – Feature Film category for the track “Periyone,” performed by Jithin Raj, the award ultimately went to musician H.E.R. for The Journey from The Six Triple Eight.

A Night of Musical Giants

The HMMA also saw major wins from icons like Hans Zimmer, who bagged three awards, and other nominees including Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, and Brandi Carlile.

Personal Struggles Amid Career Triumphs

The announcement of Rahman’s win comes amid a challenging personal period. On November 20, the composer confirmed his separation from Saira Banu in a poignant social media post:
“We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts.”

The couple, who were married for nearly three decades, reportedly made the decision to part ways mutually. Vandana Shah, their lawyer, confirmed that while the divorce has not been finalized, the separation was a painful but joint decision. “In every marriage, ups and downs are common. It is a painful decision, but privacy should be respected,” Shah stated.

Despite the turbulence in his personal life, Rahman continues to thrive professionally, proving once again why he remains a global musical icon.
