November 22, 2024: Anthony Mackie, who rose to fame as Sam Wilson (The Falcon), is ready to soar to new heights as the first Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) without the Super Soldier Serum. The actor opened up about his transformative journey, his high-tech Wakandan suit, and what fans can expect in Captain America: Brave New World, set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025.

A Captain America Without Superpowers

Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Mackie shared his excitement about portraying a unique Captain America who relies on intellect, strategy, and heart rather than brute strength.

“It’s very different with the serum — you can fight anybody,” Mackie explained. “When you don’t have the serum, you have to be smart and engineer different ways of defeating enemies. Sam is a counselor; he uses his brains, wit, and compassion over brawn and fists. He’s more of a friend to everyone than just a fighter.”

A Special Moment with Chris Evans

Mackie also recounted the heartwarming moment he discovered he would be the next Captain America. “I found out while watching a football game at Chris Evans’ house,” Mackie revealed. “When I read it, we just hugged each other and jumped around in a circle. It was an emotional and unforgettable moment.”

Grounded Storytelling and Espionage Thrills

Mackie emphasized that Brave New World will stay true to the grounded, realistic storytelling style of earlier Captain America films. “This movie captures the thrill, espionage, and emotional investment that fans loved in the original Captain America stories,” he said.

A Wakandan Upgrade

Mackie gushed about his new Captain America suit, designed in Wakanda. “It’s a high-tech suit. I went to Wakanda, had dinner with everyone there, and when I left, they gave me this incredible suit. I can kick harder, fly faster, and it makes me more agile in my skills. It’s amazing!”

A Unique Relationship with Comics

Interestingly, Mackie admitted to not being a comic book aficionado but credits cartoons like Teen Titans and Tom and Jerry for his love of storytelling. “I’ve never read comics, but I’ve watched every cartoon. Teen Titans is my favorite! If you haven’t seen it, go watch the ‘Booty Scooty’ episode. It’s amazing,” he joked.

A Nod to His Favorite Superhero

When asked about his favorite superhero in the MCU, Mackie didn’t hesitate. “My favorite character of all time is the Incredible Hulk. I’ve always been a Hulk fan,” he revealed, showing his admiration for the green giant.

What’s Next for Sam Wilson?

With Brave New World on the horizon, fans are eager to see Mackie redefine the mantle of Captain America. As a character who represents resilience, intellect, and heart, Sam Wilson’s journey promises to bring a fresh, compelling perspective to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Mark your calendars for February 14, 2025, and get ready to witness the dawn of a new Captain America.
