Aamir Khan Puts Their Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic On Hold, Rajkumar Hirani ‘Shocked’, Reason Revealed

In a surprising turn of events, Aamir Khan has reportedly put his much-awaited reunion with Rajkumar Hirani on hold, asking for a complete script rewrite.

September 17, 2025: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani were supposed to work together on a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema. However, things have hit a significant snag. Reports say that the production has been put on hold indefinitely since Aamir asked for major changes to the screenplay.

The movie was supposed to start filming in October 2025, but Aamir Khan had qualms about the script and it has been put on hold. An unnamed insider told a news site that Aamir thought the script, which was co-written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi, didn’t have the “laughter with emotion and drama” that has become a trademark of their past works together, 3 Idiots and PK. The actor’s main problem was that there was no funny part, which he thought was necessary for a theatrical release.

Hirani and Joshi were both stunned by Aamir’s reaction, and the project is now on hold. Everything is at a halt, and Aamir Khan is supposed to be looking at other scripts and hearing stories from different fields.

It was a very ambitious project to make a movie about Dadasaheb Phalke. A press release from earlier this year said that writers Hindukush and Avishkar Bhardwaj had been working on the script for four years. It was also said that VFX firms in Los Angeles were already making AI-based recreations of the time. Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson had even fully supported the effort and given interesting stories about his grandfather’s life.

In 1913, Dadasaheb Phalke, whose real name was Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, directed India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest prize for lifetime accomplishment in film, is given every year to celebrate his huge contribution to Indian cinema. Fans are now wondering if the famous cooperation between Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani will ever happen because of the uncertainties surrounding the biopic.
