Actor says he and Rajkumar Hirani weren’t fully satisfied despite record-breaking success
February 22, 2026: Years after PK became a box office phenomenon, Aamir Khan has revealed that he and director Rajkumar Hirani were not entirely happy with the final version of the film. In a candid chat with Variety India, Aamir shared that the original script had a different second half, which was later reworked after the release of Oh My God!, starring Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. Though the core plot of PK, centred on an alien questioning organised religion, remained distinct, thematic overlaps prompted Hirani to push for changes.
Aamir admitted that both he and Hirani discussed their reservations before the film’s release, acknowledging it was “the best we could have done” under the circumstances. Despite their creative doubts, PK went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film at the time, later surpassed by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Dangal. The actor’s reflection highlights how even major commercial successes can leave filmmakers contemplating alternate possibilities.
On the work front, Aamir was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par alongside Genelia Deshmukh, and made a cameo in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos headlined by Vir Das. He is also backing Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, while reports suggest a possible reunion with Hirani for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke remains on hold.
