May 03, 2025: Veteran actor and filmmaker Aamir Khan captivated audiences at the Creatosphere stage during WAVES 2025 with an inspiring masterclass on ‘The Art of Acting’, offering practical advice and personal insights drawn from decades of cinematic excellence.
Felicitated by Union Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Aamir humbly shared, “I am not a trained actor. I wanted to go to the National School of Drama but couldn’t. I’ve picked up tips along the way that work for me.”
Delving into his approach to character building, Khan emphasized the importance of deeply understanding the script. “If the script is good, you will understand the character. Its physicality and attitude will all come from it,” he said. He revealed his process of repeatedly reading and handwriting dialogues, saying it helps internalize not just the words but the emotional weight behind them.
Speaking on his dedication, Aamir admitted, “I take up the difficult scenes first. I do it every day for 3-4 months… The dialogues must be by heart. The more honest you are, the better you will perform.”
He also discussed the increasing role of technology in filmmaking, noting how AI can now insert actors into scenes post-shoot. “AI and technology have enabled films to be shot without the actor being in the scene,” he remarked, hinting at the future of performance in digital cinema.
When asked about how he prepares emotionally for scenes, Aamir responded, “I visualize scenes before giving shots. I never look into the mirror while practicing.” His personal favorite project remains Taare Zameen Par, which he said helped educate parents on empathy and patience.
For aspiring actors, Aamir’s core message was: “Believe in the script. Do what the scene demands, and don’t just think of your own role in it.” He concluded by underlining that a good script should establish its goal within the first 10% of the story to retain audience engagement.
Aamir’s insightful session at WAVES 2025 left audiences inspired, offering a rare glimpse into the disciplined artistry behind his powerful performances.
