Aamir Misses Out on ₹125 Cr OTT Deal for Sitaare Zameen Par? Could Have Been 3rd Biggest Bollywood Streaming Contract

Aamir Khan reportedly turned down a ₹125 crore streaming offer for Sitaare Zameen Par, a deal that could’ve surpassed Jawan and Animal as the third biggest OTT acquisition in Bollywood history.

June 14, 2025: With his highly anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par slated for theatrical release on June 20, 2025, Aamir Khan is already making headlines — not just for the film’s box office prospects but for a staggering OTT deal he is said to have rejected.

According to insider reports, Aamir Khan was offered ₹125 crore for the streaming rights of Sitaare Zameen Par by a leading OTT platform. This deal, if accepted, would have made it Bollywood’s third-biggest OTT acquisition ever, behind only Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War/Singham Again.

Bigger Than Jawan and Animal

The rejected offer was reportedly 4.1% higher than the ₹120 crore deals Netflix paid for Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. This puts into perspective the magnitude of what Aamir turned down — a rare opportunity to break into the OTT top three alongside blockbusters like Dunki (₹155 crore).

Pay-Per-View Instead of Streaming Giants?

While it’s still unclear which platform made the ₹125 crore offer, sources suggest that Aamir Khan is exploring an alternative digital strategy — possibly a pay-per-view release model via YouTube, a bold departure from the industry norm of licensing to Netflix, Prime Video, or JioCinema.

How the Top OTT Deals Stack Up:

Here’s a look at the biggest OTT deals for Bollywood films so far:

  • Dunki – ₹155 crore
  • Love and War / Singham Again – ₹130 crore each
  • Jawan – ₹120 crore
  • Animal – ₹120 crore
  • Pathaan – ₹100 crore
  • Sikandar – ₹85 crore

Had Aamir accepted the offer, Sitaare Zameen Par would have ranked just below Dunki and Love and War, ahead of both Jawan and Pathaan.

A Missed Record, But A Bold Move?

While fans are eager to see how the film performs in theatres, Khan’s decision raises questions about how Bollywood’s biggest stars might be rethinking OTT economics in an evolving digital landscape.

Whether this gamble pays off or not, Sitaare Zameen Par is already making waves — for reasons well beyond its storyline.
