‘Aap Gaadi Mein Aa Jao’: Jaya Bachchan Snaps at Media at Late Rono Mukherjee’s Prayer Meet
June 4, 2025: Veteran actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan once again found herself at the center of media attention, following a tense exchange with paparazzi outside a prayer meet for late filmmaker Rono Mukherjee. The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Mukherjee family residence in Mumbai, where members of the film fraternity had gathered to pay their respects.
The event remained somber until Jaya, accompanied by her daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda, was leaving the venue. Upon encountering photographers stationed outside, the actress expressed visible displeasure over what she perceived as intrusive behavior during a moment of grief.
In a sarcastic tone, she told the gathered media:
“Chaliye… aap log bhi aaiye sath me… aa jaiye. Bakwas sab,”
and later snapped at a cameraman trying to film her:
“Aao… aap gaadi mein aa jao.”
The clip of the exchange quickly went viral, igniting mixed reactions online. While many condemned the media’s lack of sensitivity, others questioned Jaya’s repeated confrontational attitude with photographers.
One user defended her:
“She is right—funeral prayer is no place to click a photo. My mother would’ve reacted the same.”
Another commented:
“She has so much attitude,” while some noted, “I’ve never seen a more angry person than Jaya.”
The prayer meet for Rono Mukherjee—a respected figure in both Hindi and Bengali cinema—was attended by family and industry personalities, including Kajol, Ayan Mukerji, Tanishaa Mukerji, Amit Kumar, and Salim Khan. Rono, best known for films like Haiwan (1977) and Tu Hi Meri Zindagi (1965), passed away on May 28 due to cardiac arrest. He was in his 80s.
His funeral was held at the Santacruz Hindu Crematorium, with son Samrat Mukherjee performing the last rites. He is survived by children Siddharth, Sharbani, and Samrat.
The debate around celebrity privacy and paparazzi culture continues—especially during personal, emotional moments such as this.
