Abhijeet Slams Diljit: ‘Hindustan Hamare Baap Ka Hai’ – But Why Now?

June 30, 2025: Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has publicly criticized Diljit Dosanjh over an old video that has resurfaced amid the ongoing backlash against the Punjabi star. The controversy stems from Diljit’s collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3.

Using a clip from Diljit’s 2023 Dil-Luminati Tour, where the singer recited Rahat Indori’s powerful poem “Kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai”, Abhijeet shared a sharp rebuttal on Instagram. His post featured a montage—Diljit’s recital followed by Abhijeet himself saying, “Hindustan hamare baap ka hai… hamare purvajon ka hai (India belongs to our fathers and ancestors).”

The video ends with Abhijeet holding the Indian flag, set against the patriotic tune Sare Jahan Se Achha, and the bold caption: “Hindustan Hamare BAAP ka hai.”

The backlash against Diljit intensified after it was revealed that Sardaar Ji 3, which also stars Neeru Bajwa, would feature Hania Aamir. While the film was released overseas on June 27, it is not scheduled for theatrical release in India. The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have since called for a complete ban on Diljit and his future projects.

This uproar comes in the wake of heightened national tensions following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s airstrike-led Operation Sindoor on May 7 targeting terror camps in Pakistan and PoK.

Despite protests, Diljit has maintained his stance, previously dedicating his concert to Rahat Indori and reciting the lines:
Sabhi ka khoon hai shaamil yahan ki mitti mein / Kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai.
(“Everyone’s blood is mixed in this land / Hindustan is not someone’s private property.”)

As the storm around the singer-actor grows, the debate around art, patriotism, and politics once again takes center stage.
