“Absolutely Outrageous”: Amitabh Bachchan Praises ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Vision

As the release date for Nag Ashwin’s highly anticipated film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ approaches, excitement among fans is reaching fever pitch. A grand pre-release event was recently held in Mumbai, attended by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone. The event, hosted by Rana Daggubati, featured engaging discussions and heartwarming moments.

During the event, Amitabh Bachchan shared his thoughts on working in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and his reaction upon hearing the script. He expressed high praise for director Nag Ashwin, marveling at his groundbreaking concept. “Nagi came and explained the idea of Kalki 2898 AD. After he left, I thought, what the hell is Nagi drinking? To think of something like this is absolutely outrageous. Some of the visuals that you have seen just now are unbelievable. To have somebody conceive a project that is so futuristic is amazing.”

Big B further added, “No matter what Nag Ashwin thought of, he actually got all the material and effects to match his vision. It has been an amazing experience working for Kalki 2898 AD, which I will never forget.”

Adding to the buzz, the makers recently unveiled the ‘Bhairava anthem’ from the film. The energetic track features Telugu superstar Prabhas, who plays the lead role in ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ dancing alongside popular Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh. Both actors can be seen in traditional Punjabi outfits, with Prabhas donning a turban as well. Diljit shared a teaser of the song on Instagram, writing, “Bhairva Anthem Coming Soon PANJAB X SOUTH Panjabi Aa Gaye OYE.. Darling @actorprabhas.” The song, sung by Diljit Dosanjh and Vijaynarain, with lyrics by Kumaar and music by Santhosh Narayanan, perfectly encapsulates Prabhas’s character Bhairava in the film.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, this post-apocalyptic film is inspired by Hindu scriptures and is set in the year 2898 AD. The trailer suggests a loose reimagining of the Mahabharat through a futuristic, dystopian lens. Kamal Haasan is also a part of this much-talked-about production.

Last month, a teaser of Amitabh Bachchan’s look in the film was released during an IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 21-second teaser featured Big B in warm earthy tones, seated in a cave, praying to a Shiva linga, and covered in bandages. In the brief clip, a young child asks, “Are you God? Can you not die?” to which Amitabh’s character replies, “Since the Dwapar Yug, I have waited for the Dasavatar. I am Ashwatthama, the son of Dronacharya.”

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ promises a visually stunning and narratively rich experience, set to release in theaters on June 27. The film’s unique blend of futuristic storytelling and mythological inspiration, combined with a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, has made it one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2024.
