January 22, 2025: In the ongoing investigation of the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, Mumbai Police have uncovered several fingerprints of the accused, Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, at the actor’s Bandra residence. The attack took place last week when Shehzad, attempting to commit theft, intruded into the home of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. A violent confrontation ensued, during which Saif Ali Khan sustained stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital for immediate treatment.
The police discovered the accused’s fingerprints on various surfaces, including the stairs of the building, the toilet door, and the door handle of Saif Ali Khan’s son, Jeh’s, room. These findings are expected to play a key role in advancing the investigation. Authorities believe that Shehzad had attempted to enter three different houses before reaching Saif Ali Khan’s residence with the intent to steal.

The police have registered a case against Shehzad under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), which include charges of attempted theft, assault, and bodily harm. After the attack, Shehzad tried to flee to his native Bangladesh, but was detained at Hiranandani Estate in Thane. He was subsequently sent to five-day police custody by the Bandra Holiday Court on Sunday.
Shehzad’s lawyer, Sandeep Shekhane, has denied the police’s claims. Shekhane contended that no proper investigation has been conducted, stating that Shehzad has been residing in India for over seven years, and the police had inaccurately claimed he had been here for just six months. Shekhane also raised concerns about violations of legal procedures in the case.
Following the attack, Saif Ali Khan was discharged from Lilavati Hospital after undergoing surgery. On Tuesday, the actor was seen returning to his Bandra residence, greeting the media with a smile, and appearing healthy. Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor were also spotted at his residence.
