January 31, 2025: The Mumbai Police have confirmed that a facial recognition test of the Bangladeshi national arrested in connection with Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing case has come out positive. The accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, was apprehended after allegedly attacking the Bollywood actor at his residence earlier this month.

According to the police, Shehzad entered Saif’s home with the intent to commit theft but was confronted by the actor, leading to a violent altercation. Saif sustained stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body before being rushed to Lilavati Hospital for emergency treatment.

The Mumbai Police confirmed that the facial recognition test linked Shehzad to the person seen in CCTV footage near Saif’s residence, strengthening their case. The accused reportedly entered India from Bangladesh and stayed in Kolkata for several days before making his way to Mumbai.

Despite the positive identification and ample evidence against the accused, Shehzad’s advocate, Sandeep Shekhane, denied the police’s claims, alleging that a proper investigation had not been conducted. He also contested the police statement regarding Shehzad’s length of stay in India, asserting that he had been residing here for over seven years, not six months.

The actor was discharged from the hospital after successful surgery on January 21 and made a brief appearance to the media upon returning to his Bandra residence. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
